The National Ballet of Canada’s virtual season kicks off with Expansive Dances, a series of three solos created in isolation by the company’s Choreographic Associates Robert Binet, Guillaume Côté and Alysa Pires.
Directed by acclaimed Canadian director Ben Shirinian and produced by Mr. Shirinian and Jared Cook of Lookout, the films unfold in expansive spaces that subvert the state of confinement brought on by the pandemic, heralding hope for a brighter future.
In Between by Alysa Pires
The National Ballet of Canada unveils the third and final Expansive Dances film, In Between by Choreographic Associate Alysa Pires. Performed by Second Soloist Christopher Gerty and set to original music by Adam Sakiyama, In Between is inspired by the pull between two places, conveying a sense of yearning and restlessness that is prescient during these times.
Even though our stage is dark, our artists will continue to share the beauty of dance during the National Ballet’s virtual season.
