Do you know what I wish I knew then about achieving a thriving career in the arts?

I’ve been in the entertainment biz for over 16 years now, and back when I first started, I thought that DIY (Do It Yourself) and follow your passions were the keys to success.  Now that I’m more seasoned in this industry, I know that there is more to it than that.

If I could go back and give my past-self 2 pieces of advice that my current-self has learned, they would be:

  1. DIY can only get you so far. When you are starting out there are pros that will mentor you for free, however, once your mentors become your peers you are on your own. I’ve learned after too many years drifting without a plan that hiring an experienced coach can provide a roadmap for success and the support along the way to execute it.
  2. Follow your passions is great advice if you have only one, but if you are multi-passionate like me you end up going in so many directions at once that you don’t get anywhere with any of them. The new advice would be to figure out what you are most passionate about and what can make you money the fastest and once you have successful systems in place, you can free up some time to add another passion to pursue.

Since I can’t travel through time, I’m focusing on being grateful for the lessons I’ve learned, even if I had to learn them the hard way! They’ve taught me that no matter how resourceful I am, investing money in coaches means that I WILL ACHIEVE MY GOALS instead of just hoping I will someday.

What’s some advice you learned the hard way? Tell me in the comments of this post on Instagram or Facebook
